When we go up to the bay area to visit we stay at my parents house. I loved growing up there and the fact that they still live in the same house they moved into 2 months before I was born makes it feel so 'homey'. Among all the familiar things around like the neighborhood, the neighbors, the park and the secret places there is the swing on my parents Big Oak Tree. Growing up my sisters and I would swing on that swing for hours at a time trying to see how high we could go over the bush. My dad recently replaced the swing for the grandkids and boy did they have fun! As I was pushing Darian as she kept yelling 'higher, higher' my memories kept flashing back to a horrible day when my sister Kia was on the rope and it snapped and she flew flat on her back and was knocked unconscious. My dad came out asking 'do you remember that fateful day?' My only response was 'I'm having nightmares right now as I push my own daughter on it'. Luckily my dad made quite a few adjustments to the swing to make it extra sturdy. Held up great for the girls and I'm sure it will be a new favorite when we go visit grandma and grandpas from now on.
