We got to go to a Civil War reenactment and boy did we love it. I guess it's one of the largest one in the US. There was so much history to see and hear and learn about. They had 2 different camps that you could walk through with all kinds of authentic stuff and 'soldiers' around camp.
This little boy was in charge of making horseshoes. They had the only working transportable metal heating 'thing'. Forget the actual name of it but it was quite impressive and the owner found it on Ebay and restored it.

The girls learned all about the Telegraph and got to see how it worked. They had a working one set up between a couple of the tents and were writing messages back and forth while they were standing there. Learning about the history of communication before cell phones. They loved it.
We also learned about the process of doing laundry back then. Doing a load was a 3 day process. The iron they used was anywhere between 6-10lbs. of solid iron. Could you imagine.
The uniforms were amazing and Darian absolutely loved the girls in their dresses.
They had live canon's there, they were so extremely loud but so very neat to see them in action.
The kiddos played with some of the children there and learned about the fact that there was no such thing as electricity and technology back then. They played dominoes and other games and mostly outside.
